Redefining Access for the 21st-Century Student

Redefining Access for the 21st Century Student is an initiative funded by TG to reinvigorate the conversation on college access in this country and develop a road map for aligning research, policy, and practice to ensure greater attainment for all.

As part of the initiative, IHEP has produced its first film, Degrees of Hope: Redefining Access for 21st Century Students, a viewing guide, and companion report titled Access to Attainment: An Access Agenda for 21st Century College Students. The documentary highlights the significant challenges faced by five students accessing higher education: a first-generation college student, a community college transfer student, a veteran, an online learner, and a returning adult. The report further explores these challenges and presents policy- and practice-based solutions at the institutional, state, and national levels.

The film, viewing guide, and report are intended to spur discussion on various strategies for removing obstacles to college enrollment for 21st century students.
